Change Agent - Acts to Change the Rules
The Change Agent leads the organization to new and higher
levels of development and performance…levels previously
believed impossible. They go beyond taking what works and
trying to do it faster or cheaper than anyone else. They use
innovation and imagination to see things differently… to see
the whole picture. They create business solutions.
THINKING CLEARLY AND ANALYTICALLY
Managers are constantly interpreting situations and
information. Most of this comes in the form of data that we
must interpret before deciding what action to take. Our
ability to apply logic and think clearly is critical if we are
to operate with a sound database and avoid shaky premises.
Managers who are strong in this competence display skill in
the following activities:
- Recognizing functions of left/right brain
- Identifying valid premises and drawing logical
conclusions.
- Separating fact from inference and assumption.
- Using inductive and deductive logic effectively.
- Recognizing fallacies drawn from insufficient evidence.
- Seeing the whole system to understand how to generate
issues.
- Creating the mind-set for seeing interrelationships
rather than things.
SOLVING PROBLEMS
Both analytical skills and intuition are important in solving
problems. They make it easier to visualize the barriers that
keep a business from achieving goals and standards – what
situations, issues, and circumstances require change. The
approach used in this module is, first, to control the process
by eliminating the root cause, and second, to find the
barriers to achieving success and changing the process to
remove them. This is accomplished through a systematic process
that can be followed by everyone in the organization.
This module is concerned with your skills and abilities in
each of the following:
- Classifying problems by type.
- Identifying the problem.
- Collecting and analyzing data.
- Determining root cause(s).
- Identifying appropriate alternative actions.
- Planning and implementing the solution.
- Evaluating the results.
DECISION MAKING
Our lives are filled with hundreds of decisions every day. We
make them without much thought. However, we are sometimes
faced with decisions whose consequences are sizeable –
establishing a new strategy, making a major purchase, hiring
someone, or selecting a new supplier. These kinds of decisions
call for the systematic comparison of alternatives against
established criteria followed by an assessment of risk.
Organizations that follow this process can push decision
making to the level where it belongs.
This module covers these areas:
- Establishing decision purpose.
- Developing decision purpose.
- Generating alternatives.
- Evaluating alternatives.
- Assessing risk.
- Selecting best alternative.
- Implementing the decision.
- Monitoring the results.
