Project: Corporate strategic planning
Situation: Due to a potential acquisition, there was a need to revise the mission, and strategic direction of a health care service company.
Critical Task: Plan for the acquisition and integration of a major competitor into a new, significantly larger organization.
Major Issue: Blend the cultures of two completely different organizations while building a new management team capable of working within the bounds of a strategic plan.
Key Problem: The time constraints created by the conditions of acquisition.
Action: Conduct a three day offsite meeting with top management of both organizations.
Result: The company successfully acquired and integrated a competitor resulting in a new organization triple the size of the original.
Project: Business unit strategic planning
Situation: Develop a strategic plan for the training and development department to create an environment that would attract and retain the best employees.
Critical Task: Facilitating a management team with separate agendas and predetermined paradigms
Major Issue: Resistance by other department executives to commit their resources
Key Problem: Develop an approach to providing services outside the company as well as inside in order to function as a profit center
Action: Work with training and development management team to develop a comprehensive plan
Result: Plan is being implemented. The process and plan were presented as a model to a national trade association convention
Project: Develop New Services Based Upon Expanded Technological Capability
Situation: New customer services needed to utilize excess unused capability of current technological resources.
Critical Task: Facilitate the formation, planning and activities of the two teams.
Major Issue: Required a global perspective to successfully implement.
Key Problem: Team member's expertise was in technology and success would require expertise in all phases of the company operations.
Action: Facilitate both teams. Provide coordination and integration between the teams and status reporting to the senior vice president.
Result: Services were developed and successfully marketed opening a new profit center for the company
